SawasdeeTalk
Learn Thai the way you'd learn from a patient friend.

The Problem
Thai language learning apps are either too academic or too tourist-basic. Expats living in Thailand need conversational practice with real-time tone feedback — Thai is a tonal language where wrong tone = wrong word.
The Approach
An AI-powered PWA for Thai language learning with real conversation practice, tone analysis, and speech recognition. Designed for the expat use case — practical daily Thai, not academic study.

Deep Dive
The Problem
Thai language apps tend to sit at two extremes. One is academic — grammar tables and vocabulary drills aimed at study rather than speech. The other is tourist-basic — a handful of phrases for ordering food and finding the bathroom. Neither helps the person who actually lives in Thailand and wants to hold a real conversation.
The harder part is tone. Thai is tonal: the same syllable said with a different tone is a different word. An expat can memorize hundreds of words and still be misunderstood, because the feedback they need — am I saying this with the right tone? — is exactly what flashcards cannot give.
The Approach
SawasdeeTalk is built for the expat use case: practical, daily Thai you can speak, not just material you can memorize. It is an AI-powered app for practicing real conversations, with feedback aimed at the part that matters most.
Its core pieces work together:
- Real conversation practice — dialogue you actually speak, rather than isolated words to recall.
- Tone analysis — feedback on whether your tones land correctly, the difference between being understood and being misheard.
- Speech recognition — so practice happens out loud, the way real conversation does.
The intent is to feel less like a textbook and more like learning from a patient friend.
Who It's For
SawasdeeTalk is for expats living in Thailand, digital nomads, and travelers who want practical conversational Thai — people who want to speak with the people around them, not just pass a lesson.
My Role
I am the founder and developer. The product comes directly from the problem it solves: the gap between knowing Thai words and being able to say them in a way a Thai speaker understands.
Status
SawasdeeTalk is in active development as a progressive web app, built on Vite, React 19, and Google Gemini. The current focus is conversation practice with reliable, real-time tone feedback — the feature the expat use case depends on most.
